Discovery Search is the Library’s new information search service. It integrates IP Australia’s library catalogue and SNIPER, as well as a variety of databases, print and electronic journal holdings into a single search interface.

Books are located in the Main Library on W3 and in various branch libraries which are located in to work areas, such as the patent examination sections, throughout IP Australia. Check the Library catalogue for holdings.
Reference materials include subject and language dictionaries, handbooks and guides etc. They are located in the Library and are sorted by Dewey classification, following the prefix R. Check the Library catalogue for holdings.
Law Reference: RIS provides access to a variety of Law-Reference items, such as law reports and loose-leaf updating services. The majority are now available electronically, with the remainder located in the Library. Get to grips with the law using our Electronic resources linked from the Library's Legal Research Tools page on the Intranet.
Journals comprise magazines, academic and research journals and other periodicals. Hard copy journals are held in the Library on W3. Some journals which are not required for supplying copies of non-patent literature are available for loan.
Official journals: The Library holds a complete set of the Australian Official Journals for patents, trade marks and designs from 1904 until the print editions ceased publication. The Official Journals have been digitised and will soon be hosted on the Internet. Ask Library staff for assistance in using these. Official journals from other countries are held in the Library's basement store. Email Library staff for assistance.
Uncover a piece of History: The Historical collection comprises a broad range of published and unpublished items in various formats of historical interest to IP Australia. Historical collection items are sorted by running number following the prefix HC. Check the library catalogue for holdings or email Library staff for assistance with access.
Online Research Tools: RIS provides access to a wide variety of online research resources including the Oxford Reference, Oxford English Dictionary, Columbia Gazetteer. For more information see the Online Research Tool page on the Intranet or Ebsco Discovery Service.
The Classic catalogue, also includes all library Print & Electronic holdings and the SNIPER intellectual property database. Catalogue is readily accessible to all staff.
To search the catalogue, enter your keywords into the search box on the main screen or click 'Power Search' for an advanced search screen.
The 'New Items' menu option provides a link to new books and new SNIPER articles added to the Library collection.
You can request loans and renewals via the catalogue and view your account information. The user ID is your LAN ID and no PIN is required. You need to be set up as a borrower to use these functions. Please email Library to arrange this.
IP Australia staff are now able to enjoy free online access to our extensive range of subscribed journals, databases, ebooks & other resources covering intellectual property, law, science and technology, and management.
Some journals are available electronically and in full text and can be accessed from your desktop. Choose a subject area to explore our collection or access via the Library's A-to-Z publications list.
The library also subscribes to a number of journals in print. The A-to-Z publications list highlights which journals are available in print and the subscription dates.

TM BriefCase is a one-stop resource for finding key trade mark case law. It is designed to help trade mark examiners find all the information they need about specific judgments, including best practice examples of how to apply a case in practice.
The information contained in TM BriefCase is prepared and reviewed by the Trade Marks Technical Hub and Quality Improvement Section, based on input from trade mark examiners. Supplementary information and full-text is contributed by Research and Information Services, which also performs extensive quality assurance checks before information is published.
